Pastor George Henderson serves as an associate pastor of the National Church of God, Fort Washington, Maryland. He has served in this capacity for over 30 years and is a liaison to the Men’s Ministry, Helps Ministry, Widows Ministry, Couples Ministry, Men Becoming Kings (MBK), and coordinator with other Churches in the DMV on special projects. He also co-teaches the Church’s Men Bible Class.

He joined the National Church of God in October 1984 under the leadership of Dr. T.L. Lowery. In May of 1985, Pastor Henderson graduated from the National Church of God Ministerial Internship Program, a forerunner of the National Church of God Bible College and Seminary. In 1986, he was ordained as an Elder. He is a licensed ordained minister by AIGA (Association of International Gospel Assemblies), and also serves as a Pastor Council member.

Pastor Henderson was born in Pike County, in the city of Linwood, Alabama. At an early age, his parents moved to Columbus, Georgia, where he grew up and graduated from George Washington Carver High School in 1968.  He then graduated from Mercer University, in Macon, Georgia, in 1972. Upon graduation, Pastor Henderson attended Vanderbilt Law School, Nashville, Tennessee, to obtain his Doctor of Juris Prudence in June 1975. Upon graduation, he was hired by the Legal Aid Bureau of Baltimore, Maryland. After one year, he joined the President Jimmy Carter-Mondale Transition Team, where he worked in the West Wing of the White House.

From 1976 to 1992, Pastor Henderson was a Civil Rights Trial and Senior Trial Attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice. From October 1992 to May 31, 2014, he served as an attorney-advisor and Legal Counsel for the Community Relations Service, U.S. Department of Justice. During his 38 year tenure as an attorney, upon graduating from the Ministerial Internship Program in 1985, Pastor Henderson was led by the Spirit of God to start a workplace Bible Study in 1986 which continues to date, and he continues to teach once per week by Zoom.

After 38 years of federal service, Pastor Henderson retired in 2014 to continue his volunteer pastoral services at the National Church of God. Over the years, he has taught as an adjunct professor at the National Church of God Bible College and Seminary courses on the requirements for maintaining a healthy and vibrant non-profit organization. Additional, Pastor Henderson has taught a course on “The Pastor, Church, and Law,” a broad spectrum course on legal issues facing pastors, leaders in the church, laymen, and programs and services sponsored by the church. He performs weddings, pre-marital and post-marital counseling, hospital visitations, and other duties as needed.

Pastor Henderson  is married to Dyara Henderson of 38 years. They have one daughter and many goddaughters and sons. Their birth son went home to be with the Lord on November 19, 2018.
